A nation under Canaanite oppression for twenty years. A woman judging Israel under a palm tree. A commander who would not go to war without her.

We have shot a proof-of-concept short, The Torch, and written the feature. Now we are making the film — and you can watch it happen, from the set to the screen.

The Story

A judge, a prophet, and a war fought on foot against iron chariots.

According to Judges 4 and 5, God allowed Israel to suffer under a Canaanite king because they had strayed from God. Deborah was known as a prophet who was also a judge, and she held court in the hills of Ephraim. God told her to call on Barak to lead an Israelite army against General Sisera near Mount Tabor.

We have created a short film, “The Torch,” as a proof of concept of the film we will make — filling in much of the possible backstory of Deborah while staying true to the story as written in the Bible.

The film is the backstory to Judges 4 and 5: our imagining of the people around the text.
